{"id":10806,"date":"2019-09-13T15:32:51","date_gmt":"2019-09-13T20:32:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/savekoreandogs.org\/?page_id=10806"},"modified":"2019-09-13T15:32:51","modified_gmt":"2019-09-13T20:32:51","slug":"lost-dog-action-plan","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/savekoreandogs.org\/de\/lost-dog-action-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Lost Dog Action Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p><b>Lost Dog Action Plan<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>What To Do<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Immediately contact Save Korean Dogs, your local<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.wixstatic.com\/ugd\/beee9e_72a943ea053141f08e419c1ee22c6798.xlsx?dn=animal%20control%20final.xlsx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Animal Control Office<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and Police Department to report your dog missing.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your dog was lost near a town or city border, be sure to contact officials in nearby towns as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As time passes, if your dog hasn\u2019t been found, expand your contacts to towns within a 25 mile radius.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please remember that your local Animal Control Officer is a resource and ally who will be of great assistance in bringing your lost dog home.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Place familiar items at the location where your dog was lost.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leave a familiar article of clothing or dog bed.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leave a bowl of strong-smelling food (canned dog food, hamburgers, anything with a strong smell).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your dog is crate trained, leaving the open crate and bedding out may attract your lost dog.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alert neighbors and friends via telephone, social media and in person. ***Make sure they do not chase or yell the dog\u2019s name, this may scare the dog further from the home.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Search social media for lost pet pages in your area and post your lost dog.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consider hiring a tracker. With confirmed sightings of a lost dog, they are very successful in setting up humane traps to capture your lost dog.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use the Save Korean Dogs<\/span> <b>\u201cLost Dog Flyer Template\u201d<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">located below.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Flyers should be simple, large font, vital info only, and a large clear photo so it\u2019s visible to passing vehicles. ***Do NOT label the dog\u2019s name.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Post Lost Dog flyers at and around the location where your dog was last seen.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Continue to post flyers in expanding areas as sightings are reported.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Post flyers in locations with lots of traffic (grocery stores, pet stores, coffee shop, vets, etc.).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try printing on neon paper for maximum visibility.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consider using plastic page protectors, opening at the bottom, to protect from inclement weather.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n7. Take printed flyers in PERSON to local shelters, humane societies, and veterinarian offices.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ask to see all \u201cfound\u2019 dogs at the shelters. The shelter\u2019s interpretation of breeds may be very different than your own.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IMPORTANT &#8211; Continue to check back in person with each location periodically. On occasion, information on found dogs held at the shelters slips through the cracks.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep a list of all locations (online posts and printed copy) that you have posted your lost dog so you can update them when your dog is found.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notify your dog\u2019s microchip company so they flag your dog\u2019s chip as \u201cmissing\u201d. Confirm that registration information is accurate and up to date.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NOTE: Keep us updated on your dog\u2019s status on the Success Stories page. And be sure to notify us and edit your lost dog post when your dog is found. Don&#8217;t give up hope. Lost dogs have been found months after being lost.
